Geography Field Trip 2025 in Sfakia

From May 3 to 10, an educational field trip was held in Crete, with the participation of students and teachers from Lincoln. The goal of the trip was to experientially approach geographical, social and environmental issues through on-site activities.

The trip began with an arrival in Chania and included walks in the city and a visit to the Archaeological Museum, connecting the urban space with its historical background. In the following days, the participants studied natural phenomena, such as tsunami deposits on Balos beach and signs of flooding in the Ilinga gorge.

The visit to abandoned villages, such as north of Chora Sfakia, opened discussions on the risks to the built environment and human vulnerability. The program culminated with presentations and exchange of experiences, offering a valuable pedagogical experience in the field.

The trip concluded with a final stop in Falasarna and a return to the United Kingdom, leaving participants with knowledge, impressions and a deeper understanding of the place and the topics studied.

Defining Conference Goals and Objectives

Before starting any process, it’s important to define the goals of your conference. What do you want to achieve? Is it education, networking, or product showcasing?
Understanding your purpose will help shape your strategy and logistical planning.

Choosing the Location and Venue

The venue is critical to your event’s success. In Greece, you can find a wide range of conference spaces — from luxury hotels and conference centers to historical and cultural venues. Make sure the venue is accessible and can accommodate your target audience.

Creating a Timeline and Agenda

A well-structured agenda is essential for a smooth-flowing event. Define the conference sessions, allocate time for each speech or presentation, and plan adequate breaks for participants. A professionally designed program improves the participant experience and overall perception.

Promotion and Communication

Promoting your conference is vital for attracting your audience. Develop a promotional strategy using social media, email marketing, and partnerships with influencers and industry organizations. Pre-event, on-site, and post-event communication is key to maintaining participant interest and engagement.

Google for Business offers tools that can support the online visibility of your event.

Participant Registration and Management

The registration process should be easy and user-friendly. Use online registration forms and platforms to manage participants efficiently. A well-organized system ensures a smooth check-in and overall experience on the day of the event.

Technical Support and Audiovisual Systems

Technical elements such as audiovisual support, presentations, sound systems, and internet connections are crucial for the success of the event. Ensure all systems are tested beforehand and have technical staff on hand to resolve any issues that may arise.

Budget Management

Organizing a conference requires careful budget planning. Calculate the costs for the venue, staff, suppliers, technology, and other essentials, while also identifying potential funding sources or sponsors.

Evaluation and Feedback

After the event, evaluation is key to continuous improvement. Request feedback from participants to understand what worked well and what can be improved for future conferences.

Crisis Management Strategy

Even with the best planning, unexpected issues may occur. Have a crisis management plan in place so you’re prepared to handle any challenges that arise.
